Slurp on this free marketing lesson from 7-Eleven on Free Slurpee Day

The best marketing campaigns build a brand and increase sales. The convenience store chain, 7-Eleven, seems to have found the magic with its free Slurpee campaign.

The campaign, going on today (July 11 or 7-11), has participating store owners giving away 5 million free, 7.11-ounce servings all day. Seems crazy, right? Giving away Slurpees during the month that the company garners the most Slurpee sales. Doing when much of the U.S. faces a heat wave.

Simply brilliant.

Last year, Slurpee sales increased 38% on the Free Slurpee Day.

That’s right. People who might have paid for their Slurpees or might have bought a Rita’s Italian Ice instead plunked down money on something when they picked up their free Slurpees.

Along with a free Slurpee, 7-Eleven provided free advice for any small business owner trying to market his or her business.

It’s simple: Get people in the door however you can and they might find a way to buy something else.
